Publisher position reports directly to Co-Presidents,
Window Media
Brand manager and bottom-line decision maker
on advertising sales and marketing for
the publication(s). Responsible for all decisions
contributing to the bottom line including
sales, editorial direction, art and design,
operational efficiency and circulation quality.
As a key member of our management team, this
individual will identify consumer and
business marketing opportunities for circulation
growth and revenue enhancement. The
ideal candidate must be results oriented and
have experience in circulation sales and
marketing. Applicants must also have experience
in audience development and in
applying marketing concepts such as forecasting,
database marketing and segmentation
to drive acquisition and retention efforts.
Knowledge of accounting, budgeting and
Microsoft Office programs are necessary. A
degree in Business or Management is
preferred.
• Overall management of Southern Voice & David
Magazines and any ancillary
print or web based products.
• Direct reports include Southern Voice & David
Magazine editors, circulation and
sales teams.
• Bottom-line profit and loss accountability.
Plans, organizes, directs and controls
resources for producing the publication including
budgeting, allocating and
controlling costs.
• Development of long-term business plan
and short-term (annual budget) and
implementation of plans on a yearly basis.
• Responsible for accurate analysis of
ad forecasting, all department costs and
regular reporting of financial status. Analysis
should include monitors of
performance against overall plan. Evaluate
competitive position of publications
and produce aggressive sales forecasts and
market penetration strategies.
• Work with Editor(s) to build and maintain
editorial excellence. Provide
editorial strategies and direction.
• Hire, train and motivate staff for increasing
efficiencies and productivity.
• Interface with circulation, production,
marketing, accounting and online media
departments to ensure goals are met.
• Interface with other Window Media management/sales
teams to leverage brand
equity and co-branding sales/marketing opportunities.
Ensure cooperation
between all Window Media/Unite Media/HX Media & Genre
Magazine brands.
• Drive advertising and sponsorship sales.
Build and maintain relationships with
key advertisers.
• Maintain standards of professionalism
and leadership both internally and
externally.
• Networking - keep abreast of latest
trends in industry. Participate in industry
events.
• Seek expansion opportunities and new
business development. Develop concepts
and execution plans. Plan to exceed client
development programs that improve
client return on investment ( roi). Adhere
to high standards of customer service.
• Gain market insight and customer intelligence
• BA Degree at minimum in a relevant area
of study
• Minimum of 6-8 years publishing experience
• Marketing and sales staff management
or related experience
• Budgeting and financial planning experience
• Understanding of journalistic principles
and guidelines
• Ability to establish and gain acceptance
of editorial mission and direction
• Strong knowledge of marketplace
• Ability to develop sales strategies
and tactical sales and marketing plans
• Diagnostic and analytic abilities
